How To Test Yourself For STDs At Home

Even if you’re super sexually woke, you probably don’t get tested as much as you should. Maybe you don’t live nearby a clinic, maybe you can’t find the time to make an appointment, or maybe you just assume an STD will “never happen to you.”

Whatever your reason is, we’re not trying to shame you, but we are trying to show you another option that could make getting tested way easier and more convenient. After all, you already order your going-out tops and your hangover food online, so why not your STD test?

GetTested mails your STD test right to you, which is pretty dope. And yes, you can do everything yourself. The test is also mailed in an unmarked package to ensure privacy, in case you’ve got a cute neighbor or whatever.

“GetTested kits utilize FDA-approved materials, including a blood collection card and either a vaginal swab collection kit for women or a urine collection kit for men,” explains GetTested to Galore. “Samples can be collected in under 15 minutes.”

Crazy right? You can legit test yourself for STDs in the time it takes you to make a frozen pizza or do your makeup.

But wait, how easy is it to test yourself? I mean, you’re no doctor. Get Tested explains that all tests come with instructions, and even tests that require a blood sample look surprisingly easy, assuming you’re not creeped out by blood and needles like I am.

Unfortunately, GetTested’s innovative design doesn’t mean that your results will be instant, especially since you don’t have a lab in your home.

Once you finish the test, you can use a prepaid shipping label to send the samples back, then you should receive your results within two business days.

Honestly, the “Uber” approach to getting tested is pretty legit. But unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks.

The first is that GetTested doesn’t test users for HPV, Herpes 1 (the kind on your mouth), or Hepatitis A and B. The second major drawback is that as of now GetTested is not covered by insurance. So whereas you’d normally get tested for free at your doctor, GetTested costs about $200.

If you can’t put up that cash in the mean time while GetTested works to be covered by insurance, try to make an effort to actually get tested every time you have sex with a new partner, especially if you don’t use protection (which you really should be using).

In the mean time, let’s hope that GetTested gets covered by insurance sooner rather than later so that us broke bitches can stay on top of our sexual health all without leaving our apartment.

Try These Beauty Oils if Beauty Oils Terrify You

Oily skin is the most annoying skin type to have, I don’t care what anyone else says.

Oily girls like myself are more acne-prone, tend to have larger pores, and look as shiny as a highlighter junkie in all the wrong places.

The only silver lining is that we allegedly develop fewer wrinkles as we age. But in the here and now, our skin’s a pain in the ass.

And besides highlighting, another recent skincare craze that might terrify you if you’re oily is the use of beauty oils.

Every gorgeous-skinned girl I know is swearing by face oils at this point. And when I ask them what their secret is, they all gush, “I literally don’t use anything besides oil on my face.” It sounds fake and wrong and like something an oily person like myself cannot do.

Like, why would someone put more oil on their face on purpose? Wouldn’t that just make you look like a slithery, shiny, dampened mess?

These are the concerns I brought to Caudalie’s PR during an email convo. But they told me that two special Caudalie products could actually be the perfect way to sneak oil into my regimen despite my intense fear of putting oil on my face.

Because according to oil proponents, the whole reason you use beauty oil is, paradoxically, to cut down on oil production. The more oil you put on your face, the less oil your face will produce. It literally makes no sense, but as I learned when I endured a painful and bloody vampire facial last month, I will try anything when it comes to my skin. So I decided to give two Caudalie oil products a shot.

The first one is a makeup-removing cleansing oil, which is probably the best way to slowly incorporate oil into your regimen. For one thing, it’s relatively inexpensive at $28 (good skin products cost a lot, sorry). And everyone who wears makeup needs a makeup-remover, so why not give it a shot? Even if you’re scared of oils, this is something you’ll be rinsing off right away so it’s a perfect starter oil.

I had been using makeup-removing sheets of various brands, and finding that they basically did jack shit. This oil-based cleanser, though, works almost too well — it smudges your make up alllll tf over your face before you rinse it off. But then once you rinse, and use your regular cleanser afterward, your face is squeaky clean. Add an exfoliating scrub and the results are soooo soft.

The second product Caudalie sent over was Premier Cru elixir, which has the single bougiest ingredient list of anything I’ve ever tried. It even contains reseveratrol, the magical ingredient in red wine that makes it anti-aging and slimming according to all those studies. The elixir also has sandalwood kernel oil, jojoba oil, organic prickly pear oil, coriander oil, grapeseed oil — the works, tbh.

You apply it as a serum before your moisturizer at night and in the morning. I’ve just been doing it at night because I’m still too paranoid to put extra oil on my face during the day when I have to go out in public. But even that once-a-day regimen has done wonders for my skin. It’s been about two weeks and I see a major difference — my skin is softer and, unbelievably, my pores appear smaller. Plus this product smells freaking amazing.

After about two weeks of adding these two oil-based products to my daily regimen, I not only believe the hype when it comes to oils, but I’m convinced they can work for oily skin types too. My skin is looking less oily than it has since before I entered my acne-prone teen years! I can’t recommend these Caudalie products enough. Whether you’re curious about oils or not, they’ll probably improve your skin.

People talk shit about Kylie Jenner 24/7 and while most of the time baby girl lets it slide, when somebody comes right out and told her she looked like a baby prostitute, KyKy couldn’t resist noting the error of his ways.

“@KylieJenner looks like a 14 year old prostitute,” Twitter user @ovoGATOR wrote on Monday afternoon, obviously impressed with himself.

“IDK, I feel like I look like a 19 year old prostitute,” KyKy responded, like a true king of the DGAF valley.

Let him know, huntie.

[PREMIERE]: Jared Gelman’s New Video For a Fallen Trans Friend

jared_gelman_WDYD_cover

If you’ve been keeping up with Jared Gelman, you know he’s never one to shy away from stirring the pot. His previous videos involve eccentric costumes, killer dance moves, and in-your-face graphics.

But for his latest video for his song “What Do You Do,” Jared chose to shy away from the camera compared to his usual production. Why? Because “What Do You Do” was written as a tribute to his close friend Jordan Howe, a trans woman who committed suicide weeks before he wrote the song.

While the song is an emotional one, Jared hopes that the music video will raise awareness of the high suicide rates that plague the trans and LGBT community. His choice to release the song today, on National Coming Out day, further perpetuates his message.

Check out the video below, and read further to see Gelman’s explanation of the video, his thoughts on admirable leaders in the trans community, and what’s next for him as an artist.

Tell us about this video for your song “What Do You Do”

This is my third official music video, and I created it as a tribute video to members of the LGBTQ community who have committed suicide. The song itself is inspired by the death of my best friend and former collaborator, Jordan Howe; the song was actually written the week of her death. I was sitting on this idea for a pretty long time, and around the time of the PULSE nightclub attack, I met with the incredible director Rob Proto to kick things into high gear. PULSE was a palpable example of hatred from the outside world against queer people, but mental health issues also burden members of my community in an alarming way.

How were you able to push that message in this video?

In my past music videos, I was very much at the front and center, pushing a social message through my form of identity expression. The old videos were almost intentional sensory overload. The director and I really wanted to pull that back this time. I wanted to push something in a more direct away, where I can quite literally be a vehicle for these ideas.

The video starts off specifically highlighting the artwork of my friend, painted in her darkest hours. Her paintings showcase how she felt living as a trans female. After that, themes like religion – and its sometimes complicated relationship with the LGBT community – are touched upon. I’m wearing a black veil at the end of the video, which obviously represents mourning. It’s also a “META” fashion moment for me, as I wore veils quite regularly around the time I conceived the song. At the end of the video, a rolling credit list of LGBT suicide victims flashes on screen, while I’m crying over the track. It’s so overwhelming seeing all the names at once; it’s even harder for me to digest the fact that there’s plenty of more names not in the video.

That’s so sad. Would you say you’re in a darker place?

Actually, I would say quite the opposite. If anything, I’m more inspired than ever. I feel such a sense of purpose. That’s why I think it was such a good time to release this music video. I think it brings an end to the “era” of my Broken Wings EP in a full circle way. The message of the video will always be something that’s with me, however this is a goodbye to my old sound. I’m all about exploring the light now.

Is there anything you can share about the newer music you are working on?

I have so many ideas and concepts, but the way I was executing them in the past, made what I was doing feel quite niche-based to some people. I was essentially only preaching my thoughts to people who already agree with me, who are from queer spaces or from my general world of people. Now, I’m essentially aiming to remain subversive while being able to reach other audiences.  I think a little discourse is good.  While I love playing with different genres, I’m taking my sound in a direction that’s much more digestible.

I’m working with the incredible producer Ray Reich (who produced Bad W0lfy’s “Used 2 This”) who I am already a huge fan of.  I’m being even more melodic in my writing, and honing in on my singing. There are harmonies, and an essence of musicality.

Can we expect to hear the new songs soon?

I’m slowly refining everything and getting my ideas together. The sooner the better, but I won’t rush anything. I want to have songs that I feel passionate about that are true to me, and sometimes that takes time. I’ll release songs as they’re ready.

You recorded the song the week after your friends passing, do you find that music helps you cope?

Yeah. I personally am a very self destructive person and it definitely took years of me learning how to deal with things, but it was definitely through writing and music that I had a healthy outlet that not only helped me get through things but also, at least my goal, is for other people to sort of feel like they’ve been helped too.

Do you feel that when you were younger you suffered with destructive thoughts that are characteristic of the LGBT community?

I think that as a person, regardless of  me being LGBT, I just think that the chemistry in my brain wires me in a way that sometimes I don’t deal with problems in the right way. And I definitely have always been self-destructive and it’s definitely been a healing process. I was, you know, obsessing over other people’s music as my escape and I really love when music can be a form of escapism.

Who are some artists you look to as a form of escape?

As a songwriter, you know, I am very visually oriented so whether it be the oldies, people like Prince, or people like David Bowie, to the new artists who are really incorporating avante-garde visuals. When I was in high school, Lady Gaga like, saved my life. Now that I’m old enough to go out, the more I surround myself in night clubs with people who dress up and live their authentic versions of themselves. Now I don’t really need to look to celebrities, now I can look around me because I put myself in spaces where everyone is free.

If Howe was here today how do you think she would react to the song and the video?

You know it’s funny, when her and I worked together, I was really coming into who I was as a creator and even before I learned how to sing she was always the one encouraging me. She was always the one who was crying because she was so proud, even when what I was doing wasn’t even that amazing. So, I know that she’s watching from up above, but I can only imagine that she would be crying and I hope is proud of me. I’m still in regular communication with her family members and I know that they’re definitely very touched by it. The lyrics speak for themselves but I really want to allow her to make her mark.

Do you think Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox has been a huge help for the trans community? Who are some of the trans voices you think people should listen to?

I think visibility is always really important, and I think Caitlyn really helped bring the trans community to the forefront of public discussion. That being said, sometimes Caitlyn’s politics come from a privileged lens, that isn’t necessarily representative of most people. I’ve learned a lot from others like Janet Mock, Laverne Cox, Hari Nef, Carmen Carrera, etc. I think shows like Transparent really help too. At the end of the day, I’m just an ally, so I can’t speak in depth for the community. All I can really do is listen and share.

What else would you like to see in the future to move society to a place where there is no hate?

Yeah, you know. I don’t want to come off like I’m preaching an unattainable goal where everyone can be accepted because I know how human nature is. The rate of suicide attempts is like, four times greater for LGBT youth, and I think things like that are just despicable. I don’t think realistically we’re ever going to get to a place where everyone is all lovey-dovey, peace, and smiles, but I do think that we’re definitely closer than we were back in the day and it’s just about teaching people how to love and accept.

Even Gwyneth Paltrow’s Dad Has Called Her an Asshole

As one of America’s most hate-able white girls, it’s not that surprising to hear anybody you know talk shit about Gwyneth Paltrow. In 2013, she was voted the “most hated celebrity,” mostly on the grounds that she’s rich and un-relatable, and she’s done little in the past three years to change that.

But while it’s not surprising that any average person would shake their heads at anything Gwyneth Paltrow does and mutter the word “asshole” under their breaths, would you believe that her dad thought the same thing too?

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, which bizarrely featured images of Gwyneth wearing bathing suits and LBDs in a Brooklyn grocery store, she recalled the time her dad gave her a reality check.

“When I was maybe 27 years old and kind of at the height of my movie stardom-it was around the time of the Oscar and this and that. I think I was very much believing my own hype, which how could you not? I was sitting with my dad, feeling great about my life and everything that was happening, and he was like, ‘You know, you’re getting a little weird…You’re kind of an asshole.‘ And I was like, ‘What the hell?‘ I was totally devastated. But it turned out to be basically the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Of course, things probably would have turned out even better for Gwyneth if her father hadn’t passed away in 2002 from a heart attack so he could keep giving her some much needed reality checks, but what can we say?

Life always takes the good ones too soon.

Here’s How Teens Are Finding Strangers to Sext on Snapchat

yellow_app_duff_galore

New dating apps are being launched everyday, but one of the latest popular dating apps, called Yellow, is sure to be a teen parent’s worst nightmare.

The app, which is not quite a dating app, but not exactly innocent either, has the tagline “make friends on Snapchat.”

Alright, who actually wants to make new friends on Snapchat besides creepy dudes from Instagram? Snapchat is to communicate with people that you already know, to show them how much fun your Saturday night is or how much you love tacos, and maybe to send an occasional sexy selfie to bae.

But if you have any teens in your life, you know that Snapchat is their social media of choice. They don’t use Snapchat just to showcase their morning Starbucks order, they use Snapchat to communicate with legit everyone in their lives. They obsess over Snapchat “streaks” and use all their data on pointless pictures of their feet.

Yellow allows users to make friends with strangers on Snapchat, which means more Snapchat streaks for teens and more ways to entertain themselves when they’re in English class or studying for SATs or whatever.

It also means that they can send nudes to strangers instead of the popular dude at their high school that’ll probably share it with all his friends. For a teen, this seems like a good thing because they’re meeting cute guys from other schools and are going to seem super cool to all their friends…but it’s obvi not a great idea because they’re sending nudes to total randos.

Also let’s not forget that Snapchat encourages stalkers. What if your new Snapchat “friend” becomes a stalker and starts showing up at the mall you hang out at on Friday nights because he sees it in your story?

What’s creepier? That the app already has been downloaded by 100,000 people, which means teens are running wild and snapping their lives away. Great.

We can’t wait to see all the news coverage this gets from old people publications.

Once upon a time, before she came out as a pansexual ganja priestess, Miley Cyrus was a baby Disney star who was rewarded for maintaining a squeaky clean image with lucrative merchandising deals at money factories like Walmart.

But then somebody introduced the little baby Miley to marijuana and the rest, as they say, is history.

In an interview with Variety, Miley shared an anecdote about what happened when Walmart tried to get her to stay on the straight and narrow and how she was like, “no thx, byeeeeeeeeee.”

“I had a clothing line at Walmart and got kicked out, because they said you had to choose weed or Walmart,” she explained. “And you see what I did — I chose weed.”

While it’s hard to top Paper’s brilliant decision to depict Kylie Jenner as a plastic doll on their cover last year, Complex is trying.

The very first words of her new interview with the magazine, “Kylie Jenner has decided to go topless,” make it clear that they know you didn’t click on the feature to hear KyKy wax poetic about her life, you came to see what her first topless photo shoot looked like.

After kicking out all the boys except for Tyga, Complex writes that she, “leans on her right leg, cups her breasts, and whips her lofty ponytail back and forth. ‘Yassss, Kylie!’ someone screams.”

You almost feel like you’re there, right?

Honestly, it’s a genius marketing move on their part.

Whether you love Kylie or just love to hate her, as pervy as it sounds, literally everybody wants to see her topless.

Check out the full story here and make sure you keep reading past the first three paragraphs because the entire interview is filled with gems like Khloé telling a story about how KyKy’s preteen “uniform often consisted of red-and-black fishnets and the blackest eyeliner she could find. ‘We were like, ‘What is going on? Kylie, you can’t dress like this!’ But she just did not care.'”

Pure poetry.

10 Beauty Products Every Low Maintenance Girl Needs

gigi_hadid_twitter_troll_galore_mag

Being low maintenance doesn’t mean that you don’t want to look good, it just means that you want to spend less time (and maybe less money) on looking your best.

Not everybody wants to spend two hours a day in their makeup chair perfecting their contour. While some products are clearly made for the girls doing makeup tutorials, other products are made for those of us who want to keep our beauty routine down to 15 minutes or less. Here are some of our favorite products for the minimalist who still wants to make a big impact.

1. By Terry Rouge-Expert Click Stick

Although at first we were a bit confused about the click-stick aspect of By Terry’s Rouge sticks, we kinda grew to love them. The product is applied as easily as chapstick, and it lasts all day without drying out your lips. So drink your Starbucks and eat your kale salad, the color you choose (and there are a lot to choose from) will still be flawless at the end of the day.

2. Alterna Caviar Style Satin Rapid Blowout Balm

Wouldn’t it be nice if blow drying your hair meant it would look like you got a blowout? Unfortunately, when you blow dry your own hair it ends up looking like a frizzy mess and you’re forced to pull out the straightener to go over it, elongating the entire process and making you late to work. But that might not happen if you use a pre-blow dry treatment like this Blowout Créme by Alterna. If you apply this stuff to your mane, you can blow dry and walk right out the door.

3. OPI Infinite Shine Iconic Collection

Having perfect nails 24/7 takes so much time, effort, and money that half the time you end up leaving your nails bare. But if you still want a durable nail look without wasting time and money in a salon, you should try OPI’s Infinite Shine line. The line is a three-step system that boasts 10 days of wear and a gel-like effect without a professional light. The line just released 30 new colors, and they’re only 10$ each!

4. Iluminage Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase

Okay spending $60 on a pillow sounds a bit ridiculous at first glance, but hear us out. First of all, have you ever slept on a silk pillowcase? You’ll wake up and hardly have to brush your hair because the texture of the pillow keeps your hair in place (a beauty trick I learned from my grandmother). This Iluminage pillow takes the silk pillowcase one step further and works on your skin too. If somebody ever told you that beauty sleep wasn’t a real thing, this pillow will prove them wrong.

5. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water All-In-1 Makeup Remover & Cleanser

The less time you spend on your evening skincare routine, the sooner you can get the fuck to bed. This cleanser cleans your skin after the day’s wear and also removes your makeup, which seems almost too good to be true.

6. Shaveworks Pearl Polish Dual-Action Body Oil

Upgrade your strawberry scented shave cream for something more upscale. This Pearl Polish works as a body oil, a cleanser, and a shave oil, which is basically three products in one. Instead of using a body wash and then applying shave cream, you can kill two birds with one stone and use this. Plus, oil guarantees a closer shave than a cream.

7. Maybelline BB Cream

If you’re low maintenance, you probably don’t bother with foundation, powder, highlighter, etc. So when your skin needs a bit of coverage or smoothing, a BB cream is exactly what you need. This Maybelline cream is a fan favorite that’ll remind you why some products don’t need to be pricey.

8. St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse

Okay, so this product isn’t technically low-maintenance, but sometimes a girl just needs a bit of color in the winter when there’s no sun in sight. We like this product because it’s meant to be used with a special mitten (sold separately) so that you can avoid having streaky orange hands. It’s also easy to throw on after a shower or before bed the same way you would with a moisturizer, only this will make you glow.

9. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product

Even if you don’t have the time (or will) to style your hair, this product will make your strands softer and smoother with a quick spritz after your shower. You no longer have to fear that your bae is going to run his fingers through your hair and get his hand stuck. Yay!

10. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer

Even if you’re not all about the fancy pillowcase, this product can help you save your skin while you sleep. If you’re clueless about skincare (like I was just a couple months ago), now you know that you should be using some type of retinol on your face to avoid wrinkles later in life, and to make your skin smoother in the near future. Just pop this sucker on after you wash your face at night, it’s as easy as that.

The Author of 50 Shades of Grey Responded to That Dumb Trump Meme

Shortly after the tape of Donald saying it was chill to just grab women by the pussy when you’re famous leaked, former congressman Joe Walsh came to Trump’s defense on Twitter, telling all the outraged women out there to “grow up.”

Chances are if you’re on Facebook, then you’ve seen this dumb Donald Trump meme this quote turned into which alleges that if “women are so outraged by naughty words, who in the hell bought 80 million copies of 50 Shades of Grey?”

dumb_50_shades_of_grey_meme_galore_mag

Understandably then, it didn’t take E.L. James, the author of the incredibly popular series, to defend herself saying, “The word ‘pussy‘ does not appear in fifty Shades of Grey. And it’s fiction. You know. FICTION. #LearnTheDifference and #GrowUp @WalshFreedom.”

While I’m assuming that all of this information is 100% accurate, I’m saving the series for the day I get a lobotomy, her argument completely misses the point as to why this meme is so dumb in the first place.

It’s not the word “pussy” that’s the problem, it’s the fact that Donald was talking about grabbing pussies without getting consent first, because since he was famous he didn’t need to.

You’d think this would be a no brainer, right?

Apparently not.

I’ve said it before, but never quite with this level of irony: what a time to be alive.

You Can Officially Ignore The 5-Second Rule And Just Eat Off The Floor

five_second_rule_fake_galore

Nothing is more depressing then when you make (or buy) a delicious specimen of food and you drop it on the floor because you’re clumsy af.

If you’re alone, you probably eat that shit. But if you’re with other people, you have to throw the food away, a single tear rolling down your cheek, because one of your annoying friends will say some shit about how dirty the floor is. In your head you’re thinking “five second rule” and lurching to grab it as soon as possible, but you stop as soon as you realize that the people around you are looking at you appalled.

Well, fuck them, because it turns out that it’s completely acceptable to eat off of the kitchen floor.

Well, maybe not completely acceptable, but science says the five second rule is bullshit, and eating off the floor is better than eating off the counter.

Basically, five seconds means nothing. If there’s a lot of bacteria on the floor, it’s getting on your food in milliseconds regardless, according to a study. But if we’re talking your kitchen floor, you shouldn’t feel bad about eating stuff off of it… in most cases.

Another study, done in 1998, found that compared to other kitchen surfaces, the floor is relatively clean.

They found that the kitchen floor was likely to harbor, on average, about three colonies per square inch of coliform bacteria (2.75 to be exact). So there are some. But here’s the thing — that’s cleaner than both the refrigerator handle (5.37 colonies per square inch) and the kitchen counter (5.75 colonies per square inch)…

I know a lot of people who are worried about the toilet seat, but it’s cleaner than all the things in the kitchen I just mentioned (0.68 colonies per square inch). What’s dirtier in the bathroom? Almost everything. The flush handle (34.65 colonies per square inch), the sink faucet (15.84 colonies per square inch) and the counter (1.32 colonies per square inch).

Obviously, this information is all relative. If you haven’t cleaned your kitchen floor since you moved into your apartment last fall, this may not hold true. But think about how many times you eat shit directly off of the counter whereas you immediately throw it away if it falls on the floor?

At the end of the day, there is bacteria on fucking everything. You probs shouldn’t be eating the half-eaten pack of Twinkies you found on the street this morning, but you also can’t avoid bacteria unless you want to live in a pod like bubble boy.

So if you drop that pizza on your floor in a drunken daze, go ahead and eat it. YOLO, right?

Ever since Kim Kardashian was tied up and held at gunpoint in Paris, some garbage humans have accused her of staging the whole thing.

Usually, these accusations are reserved for either real life or Twitter. Media outlets haven’t speculated about this, because to do so would be illegal and something we in the biz call libel. Plus we’re all just classy like that.

Not all media outlets have been so classy, though. MediaTakeOut dared to write three posts about the robbery, “one of which alleged there was evidence Kim ‘staged’ the robbery,” according to TMZ. The site also alleged that French authorities had said Kim “let the robbers in.”

Well, Kim was having none of this, because allegedly, none of it’s true. So her lawyers asked MediaTakeOut to remove the posts and issue an apology, but got no response, TMZ reports. That’s why they’re now suing.

And just FYI, there’s really no way Kim would take legal action if the rumors weren’t, in fact, false. Not only would it be a waste of money, but it would probably open her up to a really invasive investigation process, during which private information would become public. Basically, this lawsuit is proof that Kim didn’t stage the incident.

Guess you can’t write whatever you want about celebs after all.

11 Spooky 80s Songs That Should Have Been on ‘Stranger Things’

Who doesn’t love “Stranger Things”? It’s original, Spielberg-y, and has cute kids, monsters, Winona Ryder, and the perfect amount of 80’s nostalgia.

My only question about Stranger Things is where are all the upbeat tunes? Listen, I get that the show is a Sci-Fi drama about a group of kids trying to find their presumably dead friend. I get it. But that can kinda dampen the vibe at a ST-themed Halloween party.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean your Stranger Things Halloween party has to be filled with slow and reflective ballads (or The Clash).

Here are some bona fide bops that also have just the right amount of 80’s kitsch we crave.

1. Batdance, Prince (1989)

I figured the best way to start the list was with the most lit song. This track happens to be just one from a whole album produced by Prince for the 1989 Batman film. I honestly can’t think of anything more perfectly 80’s than a nerdy Batman themed track created by Prince.

2. In The Night, Pet Shop Boys (1986)

Pet Shop Boys are also hella lit. My go to is typically West End Girls, but In The Night is perfect for the playlist since it starts out with that classic 80’s droning, synth noise. There’s also a fun sort of fluttering beat so that the droning noise doesn’t remind you too much of the Upside-Down. I also love those little horns through the song.

3. Who’s That Girl?, Eurythmics (1983)

You could highkey add anything Eurythmics’ discography and it makes sense in this playlist. Who’s That Girl is such a smooth bop: it has a great balance of synth, 80’s drone, Annie Lennox, and rhythm. It’s a great track to shimmy your shoulders to.

4. You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), Dead or Alive (1985)

Okay you can’t tell me that this song is not party material like…

5. Don’t Wanna Fall in Love, Jane Child (1989)

This track feels a lot more 90’s, buuuuttt totally relates to Nancy’s love life throughout the show. This song also slaps so like even if it doesn’t relate who cares.

6. Holding Out for a Hero, Bonnie Tyler (1984)

This song is iconic. Footloose, or for the younger half of us, Shrek. It’s just a great fucking song. Ironically, Bonnie Tyler sings about a man. Considering how kickass Eleven, Nancy, and Joyce are, I’d hope that someone use a great cover by a man to put on their playlist.

7. I Would Die 4 U, Prince (1984)

I Would Die 4 U from Hadyomama on Vimeo.

I couldn’t just let Prince’s legacy on this playlist be Batdance. This song is about love, dedication, and mortality; essentially what Stranger Things is about.

8. Don’t You (Forget About Me), Simple Minds (1985)

Will in the Upside-Down was probably like…

9. Rapture, Blondie (1980)

Haunting vocals plus a rap from Debbie Harry? Say no more…

I will say more, though. First of all, Debbie Harry is serving some serious vampy chick at a Halloween party looks already

10. Psycho Killer, Talking Heads (1977)

1977 is close enough to the 80’s. Anyway, totally Joyce’s theme song.

11. Thriller, Michael Jackson (1982)

It’d be a shitty Halloween playlist without Thriller. Sure, this song isn’t for everyone and maybe it is a little overplayed, but it’s October and Stranger Things is technically a thriller. Let her live.

Alt-Pop Duo Oh Wonder Takes the Meaning of ‘Baby Steps’ to Another Level

London based alt-pop duo Oh Wonder know what it means to take things one small step at a time — and luckily, their many small steps have led them to over 35 million spins on Spotify and sold out shows across two continents.

Oh Wonder took “baby steps” to another level by creating a perhaps unorthodox way of releasing tunes: one song per month on Soundcloud starting in September of 2014.

After a year, they tossed in two more tunes, and this became their full album.

At the Los Angeles show a few weeks ago, Anthony and Josephine told the crowd that almost a year ago to date they played a small show with under 300 people in attendance — but this show had over 2,000 adoring fans, all of whom knew the words to every song.

Surrounded by a semi-circle of perfectly timed-lights and a giant light-up “OW,” vocalist and keyboard player, Josephine Vander Gucht held back tears at one moment before she sang “All We Do,” reminding her fans to always “Dream Big,” something she and band member Anthony West are seemingly experts at.

Their set included “Drive,” “Lose It,” a new unreleased track called “My Friends,” and two encores including “Midnight Moon” and “Technicolor Beat.”

If you’re late to the party and you haven’t heard their songs, check them out and listen to how baby-steps morphed into a magical butterfly of 12 truly great tunes.

Oh what a difference a year makes…

We saw you perform at The Wiltern Theatre a few weeks ago, do you have any traditions or good luck charms that you must have with you before every show?

The Wiltern was an incredible milestone for us, as it was pretty much exactly 1 year since our first US show and somehow we went from playing from 250 people to 2400! We generally warm up a couple of hours before the show, making lots of siren noises and then right before we walk on stage we all kiss Josephine’s head, a.k.a. “the lucky egg.” We’ve done this before every show, so it’s become a necessity!

How do you decide your setlist order before going on to perform?

We always try to please as many people as possible by playing as many songs as we can, but we try to mix up the order to keep things fresh and exciting for us on stage too. It helps only having one album’s worth of music to choose from, so our choices are limited until we’re touring our next record!

You surprised your fans with a brand new song “My Friends” at this show, what made you decide to play it for LA?

Having played the same album now for a year, it was an incredible joy for us to be able to play a new song. ‘My Friends’ is a song about missing our family and friends whilst being on the road, and so it seemed fitting to play whilst we’re on the other side of the globe, in front of our biggest US audience to date.

The lights are a very big part of the show, who decided to have those and who decides the colors/patterns they will display during each song?

We have an incredibly talented lighting designer, Ben Mansfield, at the helm. His vision for our show has always been the driving force for the aesthetic of the stage production and it makes for a very photogenic night!

You’ve been on tour for the last year, what has been one of your favorite travel destinations thus far and why?

We’ve been incredibly lucky this past year to have seen some amazing places and met a lot of amazing people. A highlight for us was visiting Russia for the first time, and experiencing a culture so different to ours back at home. We’d love to go back as tourists to explore what cities like St. Petersburg and Moscow have to offer. We loved every minute of being there, and our fans were so appreciative of us coming out and playing for them.

When you are on the road, what music do you guys listen to while traveling? Who is on your playlist at this very moment?

We have one of our best friends, Luke, on tour with us, who has always been amazing at finding new music. Throughout tours he creates awesome playlists that we listen to on the bus and they’re also the music that we have playing in between bands at our shows. Both of us really love listening to whole albums too. We’ve been loving new records from Bon Iver, Anderson .Paak, Frank Ocean, Glass Animals and Gregory Porter, recently.

Josephine, what is your current “go to” concert outfit? Shoes? Makeup look? Hair vibe? Sunglasses? Bag?

I’m currently trying out a lot of things, but I’ve discovered the joy of leotards and metallic skirts so I’m going through a bit of a phase. I wore this fabulous pajama co-ord the other day too, although it did literally look like I was in my pajamas. Makeup, I keep classic with heavy flicked liquid eyeliner, bronzed dewy skin and a red lip. Big natural hair is also the one. I’ve been blessed with curls so gotta let them loose!

Anthony, you play multiple instruments on stage. Have you ever made any major mistakes while swapping from one to another?

That’s a great question, because sometimes during the show I ask myself exactly the same thing! Generally now [that] we’ve played a lot of shows, my muscle memory takes over and controls what I’m doing. My muscles make my feet remember which pedals I’m pressing and tell my hands what instrument I’m playing!

What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened on stage for either of you?

It’s always mortifyingly embarrassing when you get a total blank on stage and say something like ‘Thank You Montreal’, when you’re actually in Seattle. This has only happened to each of us once, and so we pray that we keep focused and always remember the city that we’re in! Some days, we rarely explore beyond the bus and the venue, which is why this confusion can happen! Or that’s our excuse anyway…

You’ve gone from the last LA show which was 300 people to this most recent LA show which was sold out at 2400. Where do you think you’ll in a year from now?

If we’re honest we have no idea where Oh Wonder will be in a year’s time, as we are completely dumbfounded as to how we have got this far. We don’t like having expectations, as we see everything that is happening as a complete bonus. We do however have hopes and dreams for this project. To be able to come back to the States and play our second record is enough for us right now, whether it’s to 100 people or 10,000.

Kate Hudson Skips Breakfast Cuz She DGAF About the Haters

Everyone knows the four tenets of a PR-approved celeb diet are as follows:

• eight hours of sleep per night

• 64 oz. of water per day

• a healthy breakfast

• salmon

Those are the rules and no celeb breaks them, unless part of their personal brand is to be featured in a magazine’s special biyearly “Love Your Curves!” issue.

But Kate Hudson? Kate Hudson DGAF.

I know it’s hard to believe, but hear me out: Kate Hudson skips breakfast.

This is insane, right? Literally every issue of every women’s magazine ever has espoused the benefits of a hearty breakfast when it comes to not eating as much later in the day. But Kate Hudson does not believe in it!

In an interview with Self, Kate detailed what she eats in a day. It basically boils down to this: fruit, nuts, coffee, and no freaking breakfast.

“I’m not one of those people who wakes up hungry,” she said. “…I realize that when I do [have breakfast], I eat less during the day or late at night.

The interview continues:

Most mornings, she wakes up to a cup of coffee and a green juice. After a workout—which varies from cycling and running to pilates or a Tracy Anderson routine—she’ll down a protein shake.

Wow. Imagine how her trainer feels.

Let this be a lesson to us all that the usual diet rules suck and if you weren’t born looking like Kate Hudson, literally nothing works.

Who needs an art museum when you’ve got Instagram? If you’re looking for some art to brighten up your news feed and occasionally make you question what’s a real photos vs. a portrait, here are nine artists that you without a doubt need to follow. Besides, who doesn’t like seeing their favorite celeb, even if it’s in drawing form?

1. @heather12ooney

Look on Heather Rooney’s Instagram profile and I guarantee you will spend at least 20 minutes trying to figure out which images are actual photographs and which are drawings. That’s how amazing this girl is. This illustrator specializes in photo-realistic, colored pencil drawings of celebrities, athletes, and other public figures. And in case you’re wondering if these are actual drawings, she posts videos on her YouTube channel of each piece in progress.

2. @Hayden_Williams

For all you fashionistas out there, Hayden Williams is an absolute must have on your Instagram feed. The British fashion illustrator and designer rose to social media fame with his illustrations of celebs like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian. Hayden models each of his portraits after fashion illustrations and either designs his own ensemble for the celebrity or creates his own rendition of an outfit they’ve already worn.

3. @thatbadmicha

Michael Cerimonia is a 19 year old Italian artist with a serious talent for drawing celebrity portraits. His work is often created at a giant scale and with incredible detail. What’s so cool about Michael is his ability to combine graphite and colored pencil in one piece, creating a super unique style. He also has a knack for capturing his subject’s personality within his work. To top it off, he also does free-hand tattooing. How cool is that?

4. @Heyheyandre_art

André Manguba manages to create incredibly realistic drawings with a variation of different mediums, including colored pencil, graphite, gel pen, and even food! You definitely won’t be disappointed if you follow him.

It always blows our mind when people like Samuel Saito put “self-taught” in their bio. Samuel is a Brazilian artist who draws celebrities, cartoon characters, and other really cool shit, all in colored pencil. He often posts videos of himself drawing and it is absolutely crazy how realistic he makes these pieces.

7. @yashinss

Russian artist Vlad Yashin seriously knows how to get your attention. His drawings are so realistic that they look as though they could walk right off of the page. Specializing in colored pencil drawings of celebrities, this artist makes his work pop by using vivid colors and photographing his work on beautiful backgrounds.

8. @annashtorm

You’ve definitely never seen Kim Kardashian like this. Anna Shtorm puts her own spin on celebrity portraits, characters, and movie scenes using crazy neon colors and other elements to make some seriously trippy pieces. Her mediums vary in colored pencils, paint, and other materials to give her work a seriously eye-catching aesthetic.

9. @thesabstance

Okay, this artist has one of the coolest styles ever. Her monochromatic portraits of celebrities are unreal. Kylie Jenner Admits She Was ‘Just Having Fun’ With Partynextdoor

There are many reasons why a girl can wake up one day and realize she’s become a fuckgirl.

Maybe she’s sick of boys getting to be the only ones allowed to play games, maybe she loves the attention of having multiple men buy her food and tell her how pretty she is, or maybe she’s just still hung up on her ex but not about to let the perks of being single pass her by while she waits for closure or for him to get his shit together and beg for her to come back.

This last kind of fuckgirl is the kind Kylie Jenner is.

In a interview published yesterday with Complex, Kylie admitted that yes, she had a relationship with PartyNextDoor after she and Tyga broke up earlier this year, but she wouldn’t call it “dating.”

“He asked me to be in the ‘Come and See Me‘ video and that was after Tyga,” Kylie said. “I think he’s so talented and I love his music. But I wouldn’t say we dated. It never really got to that boyfriend-girlfriend stage. It was just fun. I was just doing what I wanted to do.”

You tell ’em, bb.

CoverGirl’s First Male Model Took His Senior Portrait With a Ring Light

If you’ve been on the internet in the last 12 hours, you’ve probably seen that CoverGirl has officially hired their first male spokesmodel.

But did you recognize the flawless complexion staring back at you from CoverGirl’s latest ads? Well you should, because it’s the same makeup obsessed guy who re-took his senior portraits so that he could bring a ring light and make sure his highlight was popping.

This is kind of a big deal. Not just because it’s dope that someone went from going viral on Twitter to a huge modeling contract, but because James Charles is the first guy ever to be a CoverGirl, or CoverBoy, in this case.

We commend CoverGirl for realizing that it’s not only women who wear makeup, and that there are plenty of guys (James Charles is just one example) who are killer makeup artists.

We’re too hyped about CoverGirl featuring a dude to feel bad about the fact that our only accomplishment at 17 involved learning how to shotgun a beer without puking.

Also, James looks fucking flawless.

James’ first order of action will be promoting the brand’s new mascara, “So Lashy!,” but will also be appearing in future campaigns. Also, Katy Perry, another CoverGirl that we love, seems to already be warming up to James in her latest Insta.

We look forward to seeing James Charles’ flawless face on glossy pages and bus stations in the near future. And we’re hyped that we have yet another reason to feel good about spending all our money on CoverGirl products.
