Comedian Liza Dye, shares with us her picks of stuff to watch on the internet whether it be Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube, don’t fret there’s plenty to watch. Here are Liza’s favorites:
No one in Brooklyn has televisions and if you do have a television, you probably got it from Craigslist and it probably doesn’t have cable. Here’s my guide on what to to watch on your macbook when your boo thang comes over:
Netflix
- LOL: starring Miley Cyrus & Demi Moore (My friends and I discovered this film last 4/20 holiday…it’s terribly amazing.)
- Orange Is The New Black: If you’re into that…even if you’re not…you should watch it cause you never know when you’ll see somebody you know.
- I’m a new comedian, so there are a lot of great standup specials (also if you’re into that sort of thing.) Aziz has a great new standup special called Buried Alive, but I only recommend it if you’re nearing your 30s and seriously stressed out about having a baby/getting married.
-Hulu+
- Brooklyn Nine Nine: They just won a Golden Globe and the cast is by far the most diverse and talented on US tele today.
- Saturday Night Live: Tomorrow 1/18 is my dear friend Sasheer Zamata’s first show with Drake as host + musical guest. Should be a fun time. And if anything, you can watch it and say, “hey I know someone who knows her!” which is like my fav thing to do.
- Parks and Rec: This does not need an explanation.
-HBO Go
I don’t know, I don’t have an HBO Go account. But if Gia is on there or Behind the Candelabra you should probs watch those.
-Internet
Basically watch anything and everything on ComedyCentral.com (if you like to laugh.) There’s lots of great shows on there, might I suggest:
- Key & Peele: These guys are amazing. If you suffer from commitment issues like myself and can’t bring yourself to begin an entire episode, ComedyCentral.com provides amazing clips of each sketch…they’ll make you laugh and think. #rare
- Kroll Show: I don’t know a lot about Nick Kroll but my mentor Chelsea Peretti is in this sketch show and she is god so watch it.
- Broad City: If you don’t know about Broad City, please inform yourself immediately. I, myself, was not aware of these amazing women until a mere few days ago while listening to a fellow comedian’s (Phoebe Robinson’s Blaria) podcast. I was fortunate enough to attend their episode three screening last night at UCB East and they gave me their blessing. I’m still crying.
*BONUS*
YouTube
Getting Doug with High: Jenny Slate has been on my radar for a while towards the end of 2013 but I think she may be my new “it” girl for 2014. Her range of characters is impeccable and she honestly just seems like a really dope, chill girl. She was recently on Call Chelsea Peretti and has a hilarious web series called Catherine in 7 parts…but if you like to get Rihanna (my slang for getting high) I STRONGLY SUGGEST packing a bowl and watching her episode of Getting Doug with High…you will laugh…you will cry…but most importantly…you will fall in love with Jenny Slate.
If you’re mainstream…you can continue to watch GIRLS, American Horror Story and Downton Abbey. (There is absolutely nothing wrong with being mainstream…if you are…own it.)
