Ladies, We Know You’re Watching Porn, Everyone Is.

Back in September, Dazed Magazine has conducted a comprehensive survey to compare how men and women of our generation think about sex. With over 10,500 participants from 114 different countries, the survey is the most expansive of its kind ever conducted. While there’s endless literature out there about the over sexualization of our generation and the increased openness when it comes to gender-roles and sexual identity, very few publications have taken the time to stop surmising and actually ask us what exactly is happening in our bedrooms. Well the results are in, and we’ve chosen the most interesting statistics and why they’re actually super obvious.

“After lesbians, straight women are the biggest consumers of girl-on-girl porno.”

According to their data, women are much more likely to be open to watching different kinds of sexual encounters in porn than men, who prefer to stick with their traditional preferences. This feels obviously directly influenced by our social constructs; when your girlfriends make out at a party, it’s easily considered hot/flirty/wild rather than just flat out gay. When two guys start making out, people (normally) make more stringent assumptions about their sexual orientation. It seems obvious then that women would feel more comfortable exploring their online preferences.

“Around 60% of both men and women watch it one to five times a week.”

Ladies, you’re watching porn! And so are we! And so is your BFF! And so is your partner! And so is everyone! Duh! More than half of both men AND women watch porn at least once a week. Now that this stat is out there, can we please cut the BS girls? We know.

“Across the board, women described sex as ‘important or very important’ in higher numbers than men.”

Can we officially stop talking about how men are sex-obsessed and women aren’t sexual beings? We vote to officially ban that notion from ever being thought ever again ever. Not only do both genders in every sexual orientation think that sex is important, women are actually more inclined to say that it is than men. Could this be because good sex is harder to come by for women than men? IDK. Just sayin.

“Most people, globally, lose their virginity around the age of 17.”

17 is the magic number.

“Those who believe love is “nothing” are far happier to get down with multiple people in 24 hours.”

If you’re cool with having sex with more than one person a day you also would like a loveless life. Seems a bit dramatic, but I guess.

“While gay men are the most conscientious about using condoms, straight men are most likely to “never” use protection, second only to gay women.”

Fantastic job boys! Just a friendly reminder to all the girls–please make it your responsibility to bring that condom cause your dead statistically, probably won’t.

“It seems in Europe, being coupled is still very important – less than 12% said that their perfect set-up was ‘no relationship; I’m happy being single.'”

For all you single ladies looking for that Italian/French/British man to tie down, you’re apparently on the right track. European romance is not dead <3.
