There’s just something about being a girl that makes us want to look like magical other-worldly creatures. Maybe it’s because of all those years sitting in front of a VCR with The Little Mermaid and Aquamarine. Or perhaps due to my fantasies of tying a dude up with hair a la Repunzel in some sort of bizarre power play. I don’t know and I don’t care to delve any further into the source of my interests. All I know is, I want to look like an ethereal being of pure light. “That’s the natural look!” I’ve been told through a mouth full of sweet potato fries. You would technically be correct, but every girl who has tried and failed to roll out of bed and right out the door knows the natural look takes 2 hours and approximately 2 bazillion products. In an attempt to be a beauty minimalist, I’ve eschewed flat irons, blow outs, and curling wands (for the most part), but I’ve also spent years trying out products to silk-ify my crumbled ends and de-frizz my mess of a mop. Finally, I’ve gotten together a Disney princess worthy hair routine, and these products are the cornerstone of my mermaid success.
Exfoliate your scalp
As my Sephora beauty guru told me, “You exfoliate your face but no one thinks to exfoliate their scalp.” If you want to grow out your locks, this shit works better than Biotin. The bottle says to leave it on for 30 minutes, but I leave it on for 6 hours before my once weekly wash.
Phyto Paris
Dry shampoo
Limiting washing is essential to lazy beauty and mermaid-ness. This dry shampoo won’t leave behind white powder or give you that tacky product build up look.
Oribe
Shampoo
I swear by this Bumble and Bumble shampoo. It has lengthened my hair and minimized my brittle frizz.

Alterna Caviar is a go to for all things hair. This formula must be made of real angel tears because it’s a miracle in a bottle.
Alterna Caviar
Leave In Conditioner
The cheap girl’s go-to for locking in moisture and maintaining healthy ends.
