2014 was undoubtedly the year of Iggy Azalea. All that workin’ on her shit really paid off with Grammy nods for Best New Artist and Best Rap Album, along with Best Pop Duo and Record of the Year, for her hit album, The New Classic. Unfortunately the Grammy nominations didn’t come without sparking controversy with rap heavy-hitters who felt she didn’t deserve the honors. The New Classic debuted #3 at Billboard in it’s first week, making it the highest-charting female rap album since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Not to mention her record was the second most-streamed album on Spotify and her break-out hit “Fancy” was the most-streamed song of the year. The figures just further the undeniable fact that Iggy’s popularity blew up this year for good reason: she’s a baller. Yeah she’s white and leans to a pop audience but the girl has enviable swagger, incredible beauty, and can rap like nobody’s business. The New Classic, plus her features on a handful of this year’s biggest hits, more than solidified her spot in the rap and pop communities because she can kill it with a catchy beat – deal with it.
