In a recent press interview for the upcoming Avengers: Age Of Ultron movie, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner laughed inappropriately and hysterically, calling Scarlett Johannson’s character “Black Widow” a slut and a whore.
In a statement released to the press this morning, Evan’s representative apologized, saying, “Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”
Renner’s rep reported, “”I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
The Avengers series is directed by self-identified feminist, Joss Whedon, so he probably had some influence on the quickly released public apologies. But who know what the actors were thinking when they said this? Probably not much.
