Allergy season is in full effect.

Last spring I didn’t have bad allergies, but this year so far has been the worst in years. Usually, I hate taking any antihistamines because I think there’s something weird and freaky about pills, but I buckled down and had to buy a box of Claritin yesterday. Another natural allergy-reliever that I swear by are essential oils.

Less is more when it comes to essential oil use, so don’t douse yourself in it.

Lavender

Lavender is great for many reasons: it’s calming, cleansing, and is an intense anti-inflammatory agent especially for bronchial inflammation. It reduces swelling in the lungs and eases headaches because of its soothing smell.

Topically: Works by adding one drop to either sides of your cheeks, sinuses, and forehead.

Inhalation: Add one-two drop of lavender oil to your palms and after rubbing your hands together, take four-six deep inhales.

Eucalyptus

Topically: Use one drop of eucalyptus oil on your behind your ears, temples, and around your nose (first dilute with water). It also feels nice to rub it on your chest before you go to sleep.

Inhalation: Add one-two drop of eucalyptus oil to your palms and after rubbing your hands together, take four-six deep inhales.

Lemon

Lemon also cleanses and acts as an anti-inflammatory. If your airways become inflamed by pollen or if you are asthmatic, lemon oil helps.

Topically: Use one drop of lemon oil on your temples. It also feels nice to rub it on your chest before you go to sleep.

Inhalation: Add one-two drop of lemon oil to your palms and after rubbing your hands together, take four-six deep inhales.

Peppermint

Peppermint oil is a pain reliever as well as an anti-inflammatory. For centuries, it has been used for allergy

Topically: Use one drop of peppermint essential oil on the back of your neck twice daily. If you decide to apply it around your nostrils, dilute first with olive oil. PLEASE DO NOT apply it around your nose without diluting it because it is very potent and will burn like the flames of hell.

Inhalation: Add one-two drop of peppermint oil to your palms and after rubbing your hands together, take four-six deep inhales.
