In an interview with Variety for the upcoming, Carol, Cate Blanchett spoke about her own experience of her sexuality. The movie explores the question of labeling sexuality, while portraying Blanchett’s character in a secret relationship with another woman, played by Rooney Mara. When Blanchett was asked about whether or not she’d experienced being with a woman before, she responded, “On film, or in real life?”. Without saying much more, she did admit that she’d been with women “many times”, but didn’t feel the need, like her character, to identify one way or the other. In an awesome turn of current events, Blanchett is the latest in a number of celebs to give the world a reality check that sexuality is not so black and white. Here are 4 other famous ladies helping to change the face of what “queer” looks like:

Miley Cyrus admitted to a reporter from the Associated Press that her sexual relationships haven’t always been with men. In interviews presenting her non-profit initiative, Happy Hippie, which benefits homeless and LGBTQ youth, Cyrus stated, “Being a girl isn’t what I hate, it’s the box that I get put into.”

Everybody’s favorite supermodel is also an icon for her unabashed sense of self. After a much-buzzed about public relationship with Michelle Rodriguez, Cara Delevigne often took to Twitter to let the world know how she felt about sexuality. On National Coming Out Day, she tweeted: ‘Doesn’t matter who you are or what you believe in, we are one!”. Since their breakup, Cara’s been linked to Harry Styles and Jack O’Connell.

No surprises here—longtime icon and supporter for the LGBTQ community, Lady Gaga has identified as bisexual, but also been forced to defend it. In 2013, she put out a statement saying:

I mean, I am bisexual, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I don’t need to -– I’m sorry if this is a bit vulgar – but I don’t need to eat pussy in front of the whole world for people to take me seriously. You can believe it or not, it’s just here, I’m honest. I’m not saying it to be controversial; there you have it, here I am, take it or leave it. I know I am not just a lesbian –- I have a boyfriend –- but all of my friends are in this community.

She’s since become engaged to long-time boyfriend, Taylor Kinney.

Last, but not least—yes, he’s included in “ladies”—is Bruce Jenner, who has time and time again redefined and modernized what it means to be a hero. His interview with Diane Saywer shockingly received an overwhelmingly positive review, but some had questions. How could he be married to women, if he is a woman? Bruce Jenner answered that sexuality and gender are not the same thing.
