Anastasia Volochkova was fired from Bolshoi ballet in 2003, and all because of her weight. A spokesperson for Bolshoi explained, “She is heavy for a ballerina; she is hard to lift.” Volochkova sued the company for firing her under unlawful circumstances, but according to Daily Mail, she ultimately decided to go solo, not only having success in the dance world “but also as an actress and a model, starring in films and TV series as well as modeling for Chopard jewelry,” and eventually received her MBA in economics.
