What happens when you dye your hair pink? We decided to ask our favorite cotton candy head, Amy-Jane Brand, all about it: “The attention is hectic. I go out now and everyone double looks. I am still trying to get used to it, I kind of look back at people like ‘what are you staring at?’ and then it clicks, I have pink hair now [LAUGHS].” Being stared at isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it’s not always easy! So why the dye-job? “I had always wanted to dye my hair a fun color since it first became a beauty trend,” Amy-Jane explained. “I was continually told to keep my natural color, but I got bored and felt the urgent need to do something drastic!” With Amy-Jane’s new hair color comes a further need to embrace her Instagram Bio: “Modern Woman.” She elaborated, “A modern woman is one of many talents. She is not defined to one specific thing, genre, or career path and she embodies everything about being a confident woman. Pushing the boundaries of her stereotype by society, she proves anyone who doubts her wrong with simply her success.” Miss Brand’s bold hair is definitely pushing boundaries, just like she is.
Not only does Amy-Jane Brand have the Galore Beauty Babe stamp of approval, but she has her own: “Pink has been my best decision so far for this year. I absolutely love it and enjoy giving my followers something new to look at.” If you’re a loyal Amy-Jane Brand follower, looking may not be good enough. Lucky for Galore Girls, she shared the tips to getting her cotton candy look–the right way.
What’s the best way to avoid damage?
I suggest using the product Olaplex to reduce breakage when doing the scalp bleach. Remember that getting the coolest and whitest tone in your hair is imperative to achieving the perfect pastel pink, so bleach is necessary.
So how do we get YOUR cotton candy pink?
I use Manic Panic’s ‘hot hot pink’ and pastel the color by mixing it with my conditioner. Your hair will require a top up every 7-10 days!
What products can you recommend for color treated hair?
I’m currently using the shampoo and repair mask from Amika products. I’m really impressed with it so far and have also love their dry shampoo–I can’t live without dry shampoo! Moroccan Oil is also another go to product for my hair, this stuff is great to add into the ends of your hair or extensions when it’s dry to keep your curls looking lush.
We know you’re a proud Aussie, any products from down under that you can’t live without?
Straya! Yes loud and proud baby. I simply can’t live without Lucas Paw Paw ointment for my lips, it’s incredible!
