Is your skin dry everywhere except for your T-zone? No matter what you do, how hard you scrub or how many oil blotting sheets you use, you can’t seem to figure out why you have an oil problem in one place, yet gross dull skin everywhere else. Not knowing how to handle problematic skin is so frustrating, it makes us want to move to a deserted island.
The reason your skin may be oily in only one region could be contributed to over-exfoliating. When you exfoliate too much, you are stripping your skin of the oils it NEEDS. Thus, sending your skin into panic mode and producing double, maybe triple the oil to compensate for the amount it is now lacking.
Here’s how you can tame that oily beast of a T-zone.
Ditch the Salicylic and Benzoyl Peroxide routine.
Salicylic acid is amazing alone. I repeat: ALONE! There’s no need to attack your skin twice a day with drying properties. Instead, start your morning with a gentle cleanser and use either a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide wash at night.
Manually exfoliate 2-3 times a week
Two to three nights a week, put your usual night time wash on the shelf and switch it out for a deeper exfoliation. A scrub with microbeads, a clarisonic or an enzyme mask all exfoliate nicely, giving you a smoother, brighter complexion.
*STAY AWAY FROM APRICOT SCRUB.*
Moisturize day and night
Oftentimes your skin is oily because there’s some sort of imbalance (or a long night of making out). Even out the oil production with a rich night cream and an oil free moisturizer with SPF in the morning.
