Nobody Posted Photos for the #ArchThatBackChallenge, Men Call Women Sluts Anyway

On Tuesday a new trending topic started popping off on twitter with the hashtag #archthatbackchallenge. The premise? Girls post photos of themselves arching their backs as one might do either during a morning yoga session, or a late night hook up. You know, it’s that variant of doggy style that most men can’t get enough of in the bedroom because of, well, butts.

In a phenomenon that only the post meme internet age could produce, the hashtag spurred thousands of tweets. However, the overwhelming majority of them didn’t actually feature any photos of women arching their back whatsoever. Rather, the majority of the tweets unsurprisingly featured men calling the nearly nonexistent participants of the challenge hoes.

Sex positive feminists fired back that calling women sluts for posting pictures of their bodies on twitter was hypocritical, when men often post scandalous photos of women on the platform to share with their friends and oggle over. While others pointed out that it didn’t seem very “feminist” for women to objectify themselves or pander for male approval, despite the fact that some women had argued that posting sexy photos of themselves online helped them feel empowered and confident.

Seems like the #archthatbackchallenge wasn’t very successful at delivering content regarding its actual premise after all, unless it was actually a covert feminist operation to get the internet’s most fervent slut shaming men and women to identify themselves. In that case, it was hugely successful.
