Last week, Anna Wintour made an interesting appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. While discussing the Yeezy Season 3 fashion show, the words Anna chose to describe her experience did not sit well with viewers… or the internet.
Anna explained how she arrived early to the VIP section at Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy Season 3 fashion show and was “waiting for the Kardashians to arrive en masse – and Jay Z. So, eventually, they did turn up and The Life of Pablo concert started and the migrant chic fashion show started and they were both wonderful.”
Yup… as soon as she said “migrant chic,” people got pissed.

Apparently “migrant chic” is becoming a thing in the fashion world. Do we really need to spell out how insensitive that is? #fashion

Migrant chic? And then she wonders why fashion makes people nervous. Underestimate the people? Stupidity makes people nervous, rightly so.

After days of receiving heat from a swarm of angry people, Refinery29 reports that Anna has officially released a statement via a Vogue representative apologizing for her comment : “I apologize if my remark was offensive in any way. The migrant crisis is real, and I didn’t intend to trivialize that issue.”
Last year, a Hungarian photographer released a “migrant chic” photo series that he eventually was forced to take down. He was accused of glamorizing the harsh realities immigrants face, according to BBC.
