Swim Week is in full swing down here in Miami and we LOOOVE what we’re seeing on the catwalk! Cassandra Kellogg, the designer of MINIMALE ANIMALE (and all around babe), is here to debut her latest collection on Monday July, 22nd. Cassandra gave us the low down on her swimwear no-no’s, inspirations for the brand, and what we’ll be seeing at her runway show.
Where did the name MINIMALE ANIMALE originate from?
The name is just a true representation of the brand and what we stand for.
The bikini has come along way since Louis Réard created it in 1946. Where do you find inspiration when designing?
Inspiration for our collection is a daily thing for me. I’m always putting stuff in the “vault”, but when I’m designing I often think “how can I successfully create a piece where you are totally covered, but only in enough places where you can still go out in public”. Probably not the most typical approach, but it is sometimes mine. This way of thinking is how our most popular suit to date, the “Golden Triangle”, was designed.
Who would be the MINIMALE ANIMALE muse, past, present, and future?
There are so many good ones, many of which are from the 80′s and 90′s, and I paid nod to them by naming suits after them in my first season. Presently, I feel like I’m a pretty true representation of the brand, I don’t really have any present muses, but I do constantly look back to the past to the 80′s and 90′s supermodels and “it girls”: Brinkley, Turlington, Crawford, Tiegs, Seymour, to name a few. As far as future muses, those have yet to come.
What is your biggest swimwear faux pas?
Buying a suit that is too big! Or not suited for your body type.
Favorite bikini of all time?
Trying to design these every day :)
Favorite color?
White/Black, both equally.
The MINIMALE ANIMALE Miami Swim Week playlist?
I can’t give this away, but you will be hearing Bodi & Johnny Utah ;P
What can we expect from your collection at Miami Swim Week?
Hopefully we are sending Sex on Legs, girls who appear to have walked out of water all greased up, the way I like to when I’m trying to get some proper bronzing at the beach. We are showing Spring ‘14 which has loads of color and some of our new Ready-To-Wear pieces.
