Believe it or not, but Katy Perry is pissed off about “Bad Blood.” Having your rival write a song about you is one thing, but having to watch America lose their sh-t over your frenemy’s music video that went on to shatter the Vevo 24 hour record? Now that’s a horse of a different color.
And even though Taylor has never “officially” admitted it, we all know “Bad Blood” is about Katy Perry, right?
Just in case this is news to you, let me explain:
Once upon a time, when Taylor Swift was a naive girl of 21 and was still taking her fashion inspiration from Hasidic Jews, she met a man named John Mayer, who just happened to be 32. Needless to say, it didn’t end very well for Taylor. If you’ve never heard the song Dear John, go take six and a half minutes out of your life and familiarize yourself. Spoiler alert: it’s devastating.
Fast forward two years. Katy Perry, 27, freshly single after getting the news via text that her then-husband just wasn’t that into the whole marriage thing anymore, found herself sappy love e-mails to a slightly older and wiser John Mayer, and the rest as they say, is history. Their relationship culminated in a super questionable music video, and the two have been off and on ever since.
But the trouble really started a year earlier when three backup dancers from Katy’s California Dreams tour auditioned for Taylor’s Red tour and were obviously accepted. Mid-tour, aka when Katy and John had just started making the beast with two backs, Katy made those three dancers an offer they couldn’t refuse: re-join Katy for her Prism tour.
The two have had bad blood ever since, but you know that because well, this happened:
While thus far mums been the word from Katy, sometimes a lady can’t resist firing back. According to a friend of Katy’s, the pop star is “writing some big, anthemic-type songs that’ll feature dirt on Taylor that John’s told her from when they used to date.”
Whoa. Songs? As in plural? Maybe all that publicity wasn’t such a great idea Taylor. But then again, who doesn’t love an old-fashioned, bigger than life celebrity feud? Win or lose, at least it’ll probably be good for album sales.
Start picking your sides now, ladies. Are you Team Tay Tay or Team Katy Purrrrrry? Speak now, or forever hold your roars.
