If you’re reading this then it’s already too late: American Wet Hot Summer, the prequel is out. If you had any plans for today, you’re going to have to cancel them immediately because Netflix needs to have your full, undivided attention.

Even though 14 years have passed since the last day at Camp Firewood, “American Wet Hot Summer: First Day Of Camp” takes us back where it all began.  Literally.  The actors are older, but thanks to the wonder of television, they’re still their sweet sixteen-year-old selves…only instead of being sixteen, they’re actually thirteen.

Hilarity obviously ensues.

Wet Hot American Summer is one of those movies that everybody has seen, and everybody loves. Literally. From my grumpy ex-co-worker who exclusively listens to music without guitars in it (because he plays guitar and just has a big problem with listening to other people’s riffs), to my college roommate whose idea of a good time is to throw on some face paint and get weird in some random bar, it’s one of the few movies that everybody seems to enjoy – probably because more than laughing, what we’re all collectively obsessed with is nostalgia.  Our own, somebody else’s, it doesn’t matter.  Nostalgia is like comfort food: always waiting, always just as delicious as you remembered.

Plus the cast is stacked. Not only does the Netflix series bring the entire original cast back (which includes Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, and Michael Ian Black) but they’ve added in A-listers like Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig and Jason Schwartzman.

Forget Taylor Swift’s squad, this is the crew I want to spend the rest of my summer with.  That is, provided the prequel doesn’t totally suck. Which it could.  That’s the thing about a new series: even when it’s based on something you know and love, there’s always a chance that whatever magic made you fall in love with it in the first place isn’t going to be there anymore.  Just like camp itself.

Check out the series here, and good luck avoiding the spoilers.
